Sylvia Tyson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City on Feb. 10, 2026.
Sylvia Ann Tyson, age 87, of League City, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 17, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with vascular dementia.

Sylvia was born on July 15, 1938, in New Enterprise, Pennsylvania, to Glen and Freda Furry. From an early age, she was shaped by strong family values, deep love, and enduring faith-qualities that would define her throughout her life.

On January 6, 1958, Sylvia married the love of her life, George Tyson. Together they shared 68 beautiful years of marriage, building a home filled with love, devotion, and unwavering commitment to family. Sylvia was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, George Tyson; her daughter, Lori Bishop; and her son, Donnie Tyson and his wife, Shannon. She leaves behind a legacy carried on by her grandchildren: Allen Tyson and his wife Erika, with four great-grandchildren; Rebecca (Becky) Bishop and fiance Evan Flippo, with one great-granddaughter Emmy; and Jennifer Jamieson and her husband Joe, with two great-granddaughters. She is also lovingly remembered by her bonus grandchildren, Greg White and his wife Macy, with five great-grandchildren, and Cassie Jackson and her husband Andrew, with four great-grandchildren. Sylvia is also survived by her brother, Gary Furry, and her sister, Londa Calorofe, along with several nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Freda Furry; her sister, Kay Neal; and her beloved grandparents, Cyrus and MaryAnn Furry, whom she adored deeply.

Sylvia's life was rooted in faith. She lived with grace, kindness, and quiet strength. Though dementia slowly took pieces of her memory, it never diminished the love she gave or the impact she had on those around her. Her family finds comfort knowing she is now whole, at peace, and joyfully reunited with loved ones in the presence of her Lord.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, for family and close friends.

Sylvia ( Furry ) Tyson will be forever loved, deeply missed, and eternally remembered.
