Jonathan Ernest McCoy

Jonathan Ernest McCoy passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026. He gave up on his mortal body after valiantly fighting through kidney failure as a child, five kidney transplants, 57 surgeries, and many years of dialysis.

He is preceded in death by his father, Harry and survived by his mother, Helen, and his siblings Chris, Carrie (David), Cathy (Fili), Tim (Candi), Sallie, Bou (Vania), and Mandy (Ryan). He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jon was born July 5th, 1969, in Salt Lake City, to Harry and Helen McCoy. He graduated from Olympus High School in 1987 and studied photography at the University of Utah. He served for 2 years for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a missionary in the California Fresno Mission, Spanish-speaking.

When he was healthy he loved to play tennis and golf and had just recently learned to play pickleball. He loved old cars and car restoration, especially VW bugs and vans. He was his family's go to if anything needed to be built or repaired. He wrote and self-published two books. He loved reading thrillers, watching movies, and going to his favorite 80's rock bands' concerts.

Jon had a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and lived by faith even as a child. He quietly studied the scriptures and words of the prophets every day. We are so grateful for Christ's atonement and that families are eternal.

A service for friends and family will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026. Viewing at 10:00 am, funeral at 11:00 am, and graveside service directly afterwards. Services will be held at the chapel for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 5349 W 9000 S, West Jordan, Utah.
