Jonathan Sherrod Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pedrick Funeral Home - Keosauqua on Jul. 7, 2024.
Jonathan Wade Sherrod, 51, of Keosauqua, IA, passed away July 6th, 2024, at Van Buren County Hospital. As per his wishes, he was cremated. A celebration of life will be held on August 4th, 2024. Memorial contributions in Jon's honor may be directed to the family and mailed to P.O. Box 142, Keosauqua, IA 52565. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Jon was born, April 8th, 1973, in Keosauqua, IA to Patricia (Pat) Rippy. He spent his childhood with his older brother, Wayne. They spent most of their time bonding over sports, fishing and hunting. He thrived in being outdoors. He lived in Sydney, IA and even lived briefly in Colorado. He graduated from Van Buren County High School where he participated in sports such as football, track and wrestling. He excelled in anything he tried. He attended Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids for business management, where he worked as a bellhop. He then attended basic training for the Army in Alabama.
At 19, he met Leisa Miller, with whom he later had two beautiful sons. They were married on September 24th 1994 and later divorced in 2014. Jon was a devoted father and instilled his love for the outdoors into his sons, Levi and Lucas. As soon as he could, he brought them along with him teaching them everything from being outdoors to art and music, which he also loved. He taught them how to help ones in need and how to navigate hardships in life, with living memories that impacted their souls for the better, even with a smile or prank would change anyone's day. They often traveled and would escape to Florida where some of Jon's old family land and homes still stand. Spending time with his family was one of the greatest joys in his life.
Left to honor his memory are his loving mother, Patricia (Pat) Rippy of Keosauqua, Levi (Breann) Sherrod of Keosauqua, Lucas (Lanie) Sherrod of Kilbourn, nephew Trevor Ray, along with aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Sherrod, his grandparents Frank and Lois Slocum.
