Celebrating the Life of Jonathan "Big John" Brandon

Jonathan Brandon, affectionately called "Boo" by his wife and fondly known as "Big John" to many others, was born in Huntsville, Alabama, and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. On Sunday, September 21, 2025, at ____ A.M., he entered eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and service.

Jonathan was not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved to share the Word of God and was known as a praying man with a deep passion for Christ. With a servant's heart, he lived out his faith daily - whether through encouraging words, a helping hand, or the joy he carries in every space.

Above all, Jonathan was a family man. He was a devoted husband to his best friend, LaTrice, for 34 years, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and someone who left a deep impression on those fortunate enough to have known him. He cherished time spent with family, whether it was gathering for a meal he had cooked, enjoying laughter, sharing knowledge, or simply being together. Watching sports, Sci Fi movies and lifting weights were also things he enjoyed. Jonathan was truly happiest in the company of those he loved.

Jonathan attended East High School and moved on to Job Corp before completing 4 years in the construction trade under the Local 10 Iron Worker Apprenticeship Training Program. Early in life, he used his gift of working with youth while serving at the Salvation Army, group homes, and community centers before beginning a long career as a Local 10 Iron Worker, where he proudly helped build the foundation for many of Kansas City's buildings and bridges for more than 25 years.

Jonathan is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Etta Johnson and father, Henry Lacey. He leaves to cherish his memory his bonus father, Lonnie Johnson, loving wife, LaTrice, children - Jonathon, Brittini (Jaja), C'aira, Xavier and Aniya (niece/daughter); grandchildren - Kingston and Cru; godchildren Kai and Zoe'; mother-in-love Janet (Charles); sister-in-love Ayonda (Steve); brother-in-love Jordan; siblings - Wenda (Artist), Tony, Beverly, Renee and Jay (Tina), Doyle, Rodney, Melody, and Deborah; along with a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Jonathan will be remembered for his faith, his laughter, his love for people, and his kindness. He was a great man with a great big heart, and his absence will be deeply felt. Yet, his legacy of faith, love and service will live on in every life he touched.

"For me to live is Christ, to die is gain." (Philippians 1:21)
