She was born on April 12, 1955 in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Richard Goonen and Betty (Corder) Merrit.
Joni graduated from high school in Mesquite, Texas in 1973 and later enlisted in the United States Navy where she served her country from 1975 to 1986.
She was a nurse and worked in many medical offices.
Joni attended Harvest Chapel and enjoyed arts and crafts, especially beadwork. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother.
Surviving is her son, Jason Guyton of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Rick and sister, Valerie.
A Service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tom Camp officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

My most profound condolences i read the bio and I'm wondering if this is the same Joni who was stationed at NAS North Island in San Diego during the period of 83-86 I was stationed there as well i remember her telling me that she had lived in Dallas TX but I knew her as Joni Elanie Guyton I'm just wondering if it's the same person
