Joni Gaye Smith, age 65, of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away November 15, 2025, at her home.
She was born March 8, 1960, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Merlyn and Faye Velasquez Muir. She married Max Weiss, and they later divorced.
Joni’s favorite pastime was crocheting – everywhere she went she had yarn and crochet hooks in hand. She made baby clothes, blankets, and various other things and all of her children, grandchildren, and friends have at least a blanket that she created. She loved and adored her grandkids and great-grandkids and they all called her “G-Ma.”
Joni had a great sense of humor and was always joking and trying to make people laugh. She did have a stubborn streak. She was very loved and will be deeply missed.
Joni is survived by her children, Tina Reynolds, Grand Junction; Sallie Morris, Roosevelt; David Weiss, Grand Junction; Chris Weiss, New York; step-children, James (Elaine) Smith, Alabama; Jon (Stephanie) Smith, Vernal; Candace (Shannon) White, Roosevelt; 18 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; her father, Merlyn “John” (Lucy) Muir, Salt Lake City; and siblings, Jim Muir, Lisa Muir Hughes, Kenny Muir, Clint Muir and Keri Muir Waterfall.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Faye Muir.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary. There will be a viewing prior to the services at the mortuary from 10-10:45 a.m.
