Jonnie Mae Julks, 73, of Malden, MA passed away on June 16, 2024 at home.
Jonnie was predeceased by her parents Rev. John B. Julks and Willie Mae (Durden) Julks as well as her sister Dorothy and brothers Otis, John and Charles. Jonnie was born on December 28, 1950 in Hayti, Missouri and the family moved to Niles, Michigan when she was small. She attended Brandywine Elementary and Junior High Schools and graduated from Brandywine Senior High School in Niles, Michigan in 1970. She went on to study at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with a minor in English in December of 1973.
After graduating, she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she worked for some time before moving and settling in Boston, MA where her brother Charles was living. She worked at the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind and other companies eventually retiring from Wachovia in 2007. She enjoyed reading, travel, and movies.
She is survived by her daughter Natasha (Julks) Ohene, son-in-law Selvin Ohene and granddaughter Leila Simone Ohene along with many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank Tufts Medical Center, Mystic Valley Elder Services, Sergeant Trent Headley and the Malden Police and Fire Departments and Collins Management and many others for their support. We would also like to acknowledge and thank Janice Henry and Shaquetta Harris for their support as well.
