Lanell Murray, 75 year old Woodward resident passed away, Monday September 29, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Per her wishes, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Billings Funeral Home.
Jonnie Lanell (Hudspeth) Murray was born December 18, 1949 to Thomas J. and J. Colene (Lanford) Hudspeth in Grandfield, Oklahoma. Lanell was the youngest of four children. She started school in Healdton, Oklahoma until moving to Woodward in 1958. Lanell was united into marriage to Clifford Hunter in 1967 and the next year graduated with the class of 1968 from Woodward High School. Lanell and Clifford were blessed with four children; Kelli Dawn in 1971, Kristi Denise in 1972, Jeffery Lee in 1974 and Ashli Colene in 1978.
After Lanell and Clifford divorced, she married Raymond Keune in 1983. To this union they had one daughter, Lindsi RayNell in 1983. Later she was united into marriage to Harold Murray on November 14, 1995 and gained a daugther, Spring Ranae. Lanell and Harold made their home in Woodward and built their life welcoming many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lanell worked various jobs during her life. In November of 1968 she begin working for Western State Hospital and retired after 39 years in 2007.
She enjoyed many hobbies. Lanell liked going garage saling, doing yard work, crocheting anything for her family and making purple hats for babies at the hospital with the Knit Wits any and all crafts and collecting "old junk" for her yard decor. In her younger days she enjoyed going out on the town dancing. Lanell loved to spend time with her family whether it be cookouts, holidays or just everyone coming to the house. She liked to go camping and fishing, taking her dog, Dexter on truck rides and driving passed all the kids houses. Most of all she loved singing silly songs to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lanell gave her life to Christ at a young age. In 2015, she was baptized along side of her sister of the heart, Lynetta at the First Baptist Church in Fort Supply. She later became a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Woodward.
Lanell is survived by her husband of almost 30 years, Harold Murray of the home; one son, Jeff Hunter and wife Samantha of Arnett, Oklahoma; three daughters, Kelli Tindell and husband Darren, Lindsi Ortega and husband Pedro, Spring Barnett and husband Dex all of Woodward; 13 grandchildren, Matt Plante and Jett of Albuqurque, New Mexico, Maegan Plante and Joseph of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Carter Soltis, of Crowley, Texas, Graciela Creed and Tripp of
Woodward, Oklahoma, Andrea Hunter-Price and Barrick of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Maggie McReynolds and Trent of Enid, Oklahoma, Abby McReynolds and Chuy of Enid, Oklahoma, Fernando Ortega and Maisyn, Riley McElveen, John Ortega, Mitchell Roberts, Bethany and Lyanna Barnett all of
Woodward, Oklahoma; 6 great grandchildren, Preston Price, Weston Price, Tuf "Tuf Toot" Swanson, Willow Soltis, Charlee Mae Haugen, Maddox Carter and one more on the way; great granddaughter of the heart, Bella Swanson; one brother, Tom Hudspeth and wife Brenda of Rancho Cucamonga, California; sisters in laws, Teresa Ruppel of Lincoln, Nebraska, Louise Moseley of
Woodward, Oklahoma and Joyce Everett of Seminole, Texas; one niece, Rhonda Ruppel and husband Dale; five nephews, Mark Triplett and wife Marsha of Luther, Oklahoma, David Triplett of Alexandria, Virgirina, Nick Knight and wife Kala of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Johnny Hudspeth and wife Carol, Tommy Hudspeth and wife Yoli both of Rancho Cucamonga, California; sisters of the hearts, Sandy Davis and Dorothy "Scoopie" Benz both of
Woodward, Oklahoma; her dog, Dexter Doolittle; and many other great nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents T.J. and Colene Hudspeth, two infant daughters Kristi and Ashli Hunter, twin sisters Sondra Mangum and Wanda Ferguson, one grandson Joshua Hunter, great granddaughter Natalie Price, in laws, Delmer and Virginia Murray, sister of the heart and bestfriend Lynetta Rutledge and beloved dog, Ozzie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WOOF Pet Rescue with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
