José Cantú Sr.

Mr. José Cantú, Sr., age 76, of Vidalia, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at his home while surrounded by his family. He was a native of Harlingen, Texas, spent most of his life in Vidalia, and worked as an agricultural contractor for more than thirty years. José was a faithful member of Lyons Holiness Church, enjoyed fishing and gardening, and loved his two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-two years, Evangelina Cantú.

Mr. Cantú is survived by his children, Elvira Cantú, José Cantú, and wife Betsy, Ramon Cantú, Daniel Cantú, Jesús Cantú, Mike Cantú, and George Cantú; two grandchildren; four brothers; two sisters; loving in-laws; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 16th, at 11:00 am in the chapel of Wilkes Funeral Home with Pastor Donny Hughes officiating. The burial will follow in Bustos Cemetery.
