Jose "Joe" Cerda, 92 of Freeport, Tx went to be with the Lord on June 13, 2023.
He was born in Akron, Colorado on July 22, 1930, to Agapito and Tomasita Cerda.
After the passing of his mother, they moved back to Agujita Coahuila, Mexico where he was raised by his relatives. There he met the love of his life, Maria de Jesus Hernandez. He worked as a bank teller for many years in Mexico. Shortly after they married, Jose and his bride moved back to the states where they lived happily married for 60 years. He worked at Brazosport Bowling Alley as a mechanic where he then retired after 40 years.
He is survived by his daughters Leticia and husband Juan Velasco, Aida Cerda-Prazak, Diana and husband Michael Rahm and Elizabeth Cerda. His 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Along with nieces and nephews whom he raised as his children; Robert Mendoza, Frank Mendoza, Gloria Barrientez, and Olivia Sanchez.
He is preceded in death by his wife Maria de Jesus Cerda, his parents Agapito and Tomasita Cerda. Siblings; Louisa Cerda Mendoza, Jesus Cerda, Maria Cerda Cavasos, Ernestina Cerda Bonilla, and his niece Irma Contreras.
The Viewing and Rosary will be held at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute, Tx from 5-8 P.M. with rosary starting at 7:00 P.M. on Monday June 19, 2023. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 20,2023 at St. Mary's Star of the Sea in Freeport, Tx. at 10:00 A.M with graveside services immediately following at Dignity (Restwood) in Clute, Tx. Flowers can be sent to Stroud Funeral Home in Clute, TX.
