José Antoñio Coca (AKA Tony), 76, a resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico passed away suddenly on September 4, 2024.
He was born to Romolo and Eufemia Coca on May 11, 1948. He was a proud 1967 West Las Vegas Graduate. José retired after 27 years of dedicated service at NMBHI where he was a Psych Tech Supervisor. He then returned to complete another 6 years as a tech. José was a man of many skills. From 1972-1976 he was Chief of the Gallinas Volunteer Fire Dept. He worked as a substitute teacher for WLV schools in the early 2000's. He was also a foster parent for several years. After working at the United World College, as a groundskeeper, for several years, he began his official retirement journey. He enjoyed his life to the fullest. He loved being outdoors doing yard work, traveling, and going to the casino. He did a lot of little projects to keep himself busy. José was a man who was constantly on the go. He was an avid 49ers and Dons fan. He faithfully devoted 30 years to the Knights of Columbus. During his service he was Honored as Grand Knight and took pride in this. Most importantly, he loved his family wholeheartedly.
José is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Natividad Garcia, Arturo Coca, and Ray J. Coca, nieces Barbara Gurule, Alithea (Lisa) King, in-laws Florencio and Ignacia Baca and one brother-in-law.
He is survived by his companion of 24 years Mary Alice Herrera; Children Christobal Coca (Josephine) and Guadalupe Mondragon (Arthur); Grandchildren Augustine Coca (Amanda), Adrian Coca, Christian Coca, Angelica Esquibel (Santiago), and Santiago Mondragon; Great-grandchildren Augustine Coca Jr. and Florencio Coca; Siblings Mary Coca, Connie Coca, Cleofes Joe Coca (Marcella), Romolo Coca Jr. (Maria); Sister-in-laws Viola Coca and Eileen Lujan Coca. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, God children, other relatives, and friends.
Viewing will be on Thursday September 19, 2024 at 8:00 am with Rosary and Mass at 8:30 am at OLOS Church in Las Vegas, NM and burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Augustin Coca, Adrian Coca, Julian Coca, Danny Rodriguez, Pablo Coca, and Oliver Baca. Honorary Pallbearers will be his K of C Brothers.
