José DaSilva Obituary

Visit the Oliveira Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Columbia Street website to view the full obituary.

José Alberto DaSilva, 91, of Fall River, passed away on November 18, 2025, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband of the late Norbina (Pacheco do Monte) DaSilva.

Born in Porto Formoso, São Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Antone Alberto DaSilva and Jacinta (De Jesus) DaSilva. José was immensely proud of his Azorean roots, and his family remains forever proud of the heritage he passed down.

Upon arriving in the United States, José became a union laborer, working tirelessly to support the family he cherished. He was a dedicated Union Member of Local 610, where he worked full-time until his retirement.

A true man of the land, José carried his passion for farming from the Azores to America. Even while working long hours he continued raising livestock & finding joy and purpose in caring for his animals. He took great pride in everything he owned, always keeping busy with projects, gardening, and maintaining his properties with care and skill.

José’s faith was a constant in his life. A devoted parishioner of Santo Christo Church, he was known in the community for his generosity, often donating food or livestock for church auctions, feasts, and community celebrations.

More than just a hardworking man, José was full of life and spirit. A natural storyteller and singer, he was a familiar and beloved presence in the Portuguese community. He was always ready with a joke, a song, or a conversation. His sense of humor was unmatched, he loved to laugh, tease, and bring joy to those around him.

At home, he was a caring father who made sure his children were always well-fed and well cared for. With the “appetite of a lion,” he adored his wife’s cooking and often said she had the magic touch to make every meal unforgettable. Above all, José was a devoted family man who treasured every moment with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children: Grace Medeiros and her husband Arsenio “Sam”, Mary L. Tavares and her husband Jose C., Teresa J. Gomes, Jose Antonio DaSilva, Sandra Pacheco DaSilva (and her late partner, José E. Sousa), and Paul George DaSilva. He leaves behind one brother, Luis A. DaSilva. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristina Barroso, Tiffany Tavares Birge, and Joseph Nicholas Sousa; and his great-grandchildren, Camren, Noah, and Londyn Barroso. He was the brother of the late Manuel Alberto DaSilva, Maria De Rosario DaSilva Cabral, Maria De Lurdes DaSilva Pacheco, Antonio Alberto DaSilva, and Maria Jose DaSilva.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 23, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street, Fall River, MA 02721.

His funeral will be held on Monday, November 24, beginning at 8:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM at Santo Christo Church. Interment will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
