Alvaro V. Barreira, 92, of Fall River, MA, passed away on November 15, 2025, at St. Anne's Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of the late Arminda M. (Lopes) Barreira.
Born in Santa Barbara, Sao Miguel, Acores, on August 8, 1933, he was the son of the late Antone Barreira and the late Marina Viveiros.
A skilled carpenter by trade, Alvaro was the proud owner and operator of the Barreira Construction Company for many years. He was a parishioner of Santo Christo Church and belonged to the Santo Christo Club and the Fall River Sports Club, and was a former member of the Acoreana Band Club. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, watching soccer, and was an avid fan of Sporting CP, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Alvaro leaves behind a large and loving family. He is survived by his children: Theresa Cabral, Mindy Cabral (husband Joseph), and Alvaro Barreira, Jr. (wife Patricia). He was the brother of Mary Marcelino (husband Isidro). He was a proud grandfather to Heather Bibbins, Joseph S. Cabral, Candice Rego, Sade Helger, Preston Cabral, Alexis Cabral, Mckenna Botelho, and Ian Barreira; great-grandfather to Alyse Cabral, Mckayla Cabral, Elijan Bibbins, Noah Rego, Jonah Rego, Blake Helger, and Lucas Helger; and great-great-grandfather to Violet Oliveira, Briella Cassidy, and Devin Cassidy. He was predeceased by his brother, Antone Barreira, and his sister, Virginia Pereira (husband Edward).
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 20, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street, Fall River, MA 02721.
His funeral will be held on Friday, November 21, beginning at 9:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Santo Christo Church. Interment will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
