Jose Ruben Hernandez, longtime resident of Bellevue, peacefully went home to be with his Lord on July 20, 2025, at the age of 75.
Ruben was born to the late Jose Hernandez and Aida Siragusa in Santurce, Puerto Rico (PR). A graduate of De La Salle High School (Bayamon, PR) Class of 1967, he graduated from the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree. After college, he worked 11 years with various engineering/architectural consultants and government agencies. In 1983, he came to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District where he completed 27 years of service as an engineering project manager. He was an active member, and secretary for many years, of the Donelson Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE).
Ruben is survived by his cherished wife of 53 years, Elsa; his children, Ruby Hernandez (Russell) and Ruben Hernandez (Sheneka); four grandchildren Chelsie, Elijah, Jayden, and Mateo; his brother and Sister-in-law Dr. Sigfredo and Jan Hernandez; and several first cousins.
Ruben devoted much of his life in Nashville serving in two churches: Covenant Baptist Church Bellevue and Faith Engaged Fairview. He considered that his greatest accomplishment in life was having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He lived with contentment and peace knowing that he would go to heaven when he died because of Christ's sacrifice on the cross.
