Jose Antonio Isasa, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was 83 years old.
Jose was born on October 1, 1941, in Astigarraga, Spain, in the heart of the Basque Country, and remained proud of his Basque heritage throughout his life. A talented athlete, he built a remarkable career as a professional jai alai player, competing in frontons across the world. Although he played in many countries, he never had the chance to play in Cuba- which may have been his only real regret.
Beyond the court, Jose found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved cooking for family and friends, walking along the beach, tending his garden, and listening to Real Sociedad matches on the radio. His passion for his team and his roots remained strong no matter where life took him.
Jose will be remembered for his warmth, quiet strength, and dedication to the things and people he loved. He is preceded in death by his parents, Concepcion Isasa and Ignacio Mugica; and his siblings, Miguel Isasa, Arantxa Isasa, Jose Isasa, and Lourdes Isasa. He is survived by his wife, Beth Payne Isasa; his daughter, Idurre Isasa Cowan (David Cowan); his grandsons, Truett Lander Cowan and Dashiell Joseba Cowan; and his siblings, Milagros Isasa, Beni Isasa, and Martin Isasa, and his many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 10, at 10:30am, at Ammen Family Cremation & Funeral Care where friends and loved ones are invited to gather and celebrate his remarkable life.
Jose leaves behind the legacy of a life well lived and deeply loved.
