Jose R. Maldonado, who loved to be called "Junior, Papi, old man, abuelo, Viejo," departed his loving family in January 2024.
Jose was born in (Puerto Rico - Ponce) on February 15, 1945
Jose Maldonado (Junior) is the father of Olga and Junito Maldonado and the love of his life, Margarita's children, Jannette, Efrain, Carlos, Maria Lewis-Maldonado and their spouses. Jose has many beloved grandchildren, including Olgui, Yara, Mickey, Mini, Jeff, Jamy, Antwan, Kamari, Montress, Todd, Zequana, Kymberly, Kiara, Carlito, Jocelyn, Armando, Jordyn and many great-grandkids. He has many living siblings, including his sisters Ramona, Amalia, Florabel and Alma Maldonado.
Jose's favorite sayings were "Hasta La Vista Baby," "Cheese and crackers," and "Babe." Jose enjoyed saying funny, aka inappropriate things, laughing, cracking jokes, and watching his Telemundo-Univision TV shows and his car auction shows. He loved to play dominoes with his family at home and in the community with his wife and long-time partner Margarita; they won two trophies. He also loved playing Tetris and Super Mario Brothers at home and solitaire on Nintendo. Jose enjoyed the summer; he loved washing his car, visiting his friends and family, and sitting at Burnet Park and outside in his lawn chair with his beloved Margarita.
He loved eating, which was his number one happy place, especially once he learned to make his perfect rice, beans, and chicken. His face lit up when he was given pineapple upside-down cake, flan, butterfly shrimp, fish, and his favorite coquito. He enjoyed reggaeton and hip-hop and blasted his music as he drove. He loved to attend the Puerto Rican Festivals in Syracuse and Rochester. He enjoyed visiting local restaurants like Don Juan and Mi Casita, where everyone knew and loved him, and he was always excited when anyone would bring him bottles to return.
Junior was a man of nonstop jokes, but you could feel his love for each person who came through his path. He loved life, and he lived every moment yelling, "I love Ponce and Viva Puerto Rico", until the day he left this earth.
