Mr. Jose Mario Moncada, Sr passed away at St. David's North Medical Center, Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at the age of 88. Mr. Moncada was born in La Ceiba, Honduras, on 5/20/1936 to Juan Vicente Moncada and Herminia Mass Moncada, who both preceded him in death. He was a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, for many years, and of late, Austin, Texas.
Mr. Moncada was the beloved husband of Geraldine Lloyd Moncada, his wife of 53 years, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2024. He was a beloved father to Jose Mario Moncada, Jr., and Alana Moncada (Timothy Bicknase). Loving brother to Florencia Moncada, Alina Moncada Diaz-Balart (Frank Diaz-Balart); both deceased. He was a devoted father and grandfather to his children, siblings, and loved spending time with his granddaughters, Aria Rose, Camille Rebecca, and Hazel Marie Bicknase.
He was a much-loved uncle to Frank Raphael Diaz-Balart, Juan Carlos Diaz-Balart, Melanie Lloyd Breaux Baldwin, James Bishop (Peck) Lloyd, Christina Wright Sternhell; and Great Uncle to Olivia and Lily Breaux, Ava and Scarlet Lloyd, and Liam James Sternhell. He was a much-loved brother-in-law to James William Lloyd, Jr., and Valerie Lloyd Wright, and to his many friends.
Mr. Moncada graduated from high school in La Ceiba, Honduras, and attended graduate school in Spain. Mr. Moncada was a long-time parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church and was the recipient of the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion in recognition of his great dedication and years of service to the Catholic Church and Archdiocese of New Orleans.
