Jose Antonio Ortiz, passed away due to heart failure on April 29, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born on December 1, 1986, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Joey's vibrant spirit and infectious laughter brought joy to all who knew him throughout his 38 years of life. Jose was a beacon of light in the lives of many, known for his loving nature, his friendly demeanor, and his unique sense of humor. His ability to make others laugh was unmatched, and his presence was a source of comfort and happiness. Those who knew Jose will remember his jokes, his warm hugs, and his unwavering positivity.
A proud graduate of Jackson Community College, Jose was determined and hardworking, earning his GED and using his education to propel himself forward in life. His tenacity and dedication were inspiring to his peers, and he was always ready to lend a hand or offer words of encouragement to those around him. Above all, Jose was a family man, deeply devoted to his loved ones. He is survived by his parents, Tamara Miller and Gary Miller, who cherished him as a son. His brother, Antonio Manuel Ortiz and sister-in-law Jazmyne Khristeen Ortiz; his nephew Antonio Manuel Ortiz II; and his nieces Izabell Aufance and Layla Jones; his Aunt Tracy Willmer; paternal grandfather David N. Miller, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends will also hold onto the memories they shared with Jose.
Preceded in death are his grandfather Kenneth Neerken; grandmothers Sandra Miller, Lynda Miller and Onelia Ortiz. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of love and laughter will endure. Jose's life was a testament to the power of positivity and the importance of family. He approached every challenge with a smile and every person with an open heart. His impact on the world was as profound as it was quiet, and his memory will be treasured by those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we say goodbye to Jose, we take solace in the knowledge that his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the stories we share and the love we carry for him. He was a remarkable individual whose life was too short but filled with meaningful connections and moments of pure joy.
A private ceremony will be held to honor Jose's life and legacy. The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the outpouring of support during this difficult time. Jose's love for life and his ability to touch the hearts of so many will never be forgotten. In the quiet moments, we will feel Jose's presence in the loving embrace of his parents. His memory will live on as a reminder to cherish every day, to lead with kindness, and to always find reasons to smile. Rest in peace, Jose.
