José Ernesto Sánchez Vega, a resident of New Haven, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 26, 2025. He was the beloved husband of sixty years to Maria de la Luz Briones de Sánchez.
Born in Uruapan, Michoacán, México, on April 18, 1941, Ernesto was the son of the late Rodolfo Sánchez Espinosa and Ana Maria Vega Duarte. He was the loving father of Ernesto, Héctor, Ana Luz and Cecilia Sánchez Briones, father-in-law of Sylvie Levallois and proud grandfather of Pablo and Julien Sánchez-Levallois. He was also the brother of Rodolfo, Héctor, Javier and Arturo Sánchez Vega.
Ernesto had a distinguished career with Xerox Corporation, where he held various positions-including Service Technician, Technical Trainer, Service Manager, Regional Manager, Service Training Technician and Service Operations Manager-between 1968 and 2000, when he retired.
In 1976, Ernesto was transferred with his family to the Xerox affiliate in Panama, where they lived for two years. In 1982, four years after returning to México, he was transferred to Connecticut, USA, where he and his family settled.
Ernesto was deeply loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, nephews, cousins, and the many friends he made throughout his life in different parts of the world. Over the years, he and Maria de la Luz made annual trips to México, cherishing every opportunity to spend time with their extended family and friends.
Ernesto loved music, traveling, movies, animals and nature, and often said that material possessions are not really important. He believed that what truly matters in life are the fleeting moments of joy we share with the people we love-both in every day life, and on special occasions such as birthdays, holidays and anniversaries. He would often say that those brief moments are what we actually take with us, and what we leave behind for our loved ones when we depart.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Ernesto on Thursday, November 13th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Aedan Church (Blessed Michael McGivney Parish), 112 Fountain St., New Haven. Burial will be private. The Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven has been entrusted with arrangements. washingtonmemorialfh.com
