Jose Vasquez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palm Heights Mortuary on Jan. 2, 2026.
Jose Baez Vasquez Jr. age 88, passed away December 22, 2025, at his home in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on March 20, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas, a son of the late Jose D. Vasquez and Dolores Baez, brother of the late Emilio B. Vasquez, and great grandfather of the late Roman Alexander Vasquez. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Gloria Vasquez, four sons: Joe A. Vasquez (Anne Vasquez), Roland Vasquez (Betty Vasquez), Anthony Vasquez, and Michael N. Vasquez (Beatrice Vasquez), one daughter Susan Castillo (Matias Castillo), and sisters Joann Vasquez and Dolores Montez. Jose was blessed to have 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and godchildren throughout the state of Texas.

Jose, a Sydney Lanier High School graduate, was a veteran who served our great nation in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. After the military, he used his aircraft structural skills working civil service at Kelly AFB, Texas for 30+ years, retiring in 1990. His community involvement was extensive coaching youth baseball at Palm Heights Little League and at Normoyle Park Senior Baseball League. He was a staple on preparing the youth baseball players from Palm Heights that went on to compete and win the Texas State Little League Championship and compete in the U.S. Regional Tournament in Florida in 1975. He was also heavily involved in community fund raising throughout his life. Jose had many of his lifelong friends come and go in his life. Most have passed and he can now join them in eternal life along with his family in Heaven. Jose spent his last years enjoying going to family gatherings and attending hundreds of his grandchildren's baseball and football games. He was a lifelong fan of the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys. But most of all, he enjoyed spending the time with his love of his life, his wife Gloria, who cared for him 24 hours a day during his final weeks. Jose will be dearly missed and remembered by a multitude of family and friends.

A reception will be held for all family and friends to attend after the burial on January 13th from 1 pm to 5 pm at the VFW Post 4815 located at 3111 Commercial, San Antonio, TX 78221.

Visitation will begin on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Palm Heights Mortuary from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church with a procession from the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
