Obituary of Josef Schneider
In Loving Memory of Josef Schneider
Josef Schneider, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on September 15, 2023 in Haverstraw, NY. He was born on March 11, 1932 in Waschagrün, Czechoslovakia (currently Chodová Planá, Czech Republic) to Franz Schneider and Margareta Grüm. He emigrated to Germany with his family after WWII, and to the United States with his wife in 1960.
Josef Schneider is survived by his wife, Marianne Schneider, his children, Joseph C. Schneider and his wife, Libby, in Carrolton, TX, Thomas W. Schneider and his partner, Tom Edwards, in Highland Mills, NY, and Stefan A. Schneider and his partner, Bradley Brammer, in Larchmont, NY. He is also survived by his youngest sister, Emilie Cozar-Saavedra in Germany and his five grandchildren, Christian Schneider in Dallas, TX, Summer Schneider in New York, NY and Liam Schneider, Ava Schneider, and Aidan Schneider in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, as well as his four step-grandchildren, Alexandria Brammer in Taiwan, Abigail Fouts and her husband, Justin, in Phoenix, AZ, Addison Brammer and his wife, Amberlynn, in Austin, TX, and Emma Brammer in New York, NY. He was preceded in death by his sister, Anni Steger, and his brother, Kurt Schneider.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at a date to be announced in the future. Friends and family will be invited to attend and pay their respects.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Steuben Association Scholarship Fund, PO Box 678, Peck Slip Station, New York, NY 10272 in Josef Schneider's memory. Josef was an active member of the NYPD Steuben Association for many years, participating in the annual Steuben Parade and many local Oktoberfests, which helped him remain connected to his German heritage.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to United Hospice and the Town of Haverstraw Police Department for their compassion and care during Josef's end of life illness.
Josef will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace. You will always be remembered and cherished.
