Josefa Baerga

It is with profound sadness we will assemble in honor of the passing of an amazing individual, Josefa Maria Baerga.
She transitioned peacefully on May 24th, 2025, to the Forrest Hill Nursing home, in Newark, NJ, at the age of 98. She was born on March 19th, 1927, in the mountains of Salinas, Puerto Rico. Known for her warm smile, she came to Newark NJ in 1956 as a loving wife and mother, and a diligent worker of the factory industry. Married to Pedro Torres-Baerga however becoming the widow of the US Veteran, she continued; A woman of faith, who was giving and kind.
Described as "the best mother one could have, who did it all", she survived by her sons Willo and Innaldo Baerga. She was also survived by, then welcomed to heaven by her other sons, George and Peter Baerga. She was an extremely endearing grandmother, survived by her grandchildren: Kandida, Candra, Petrina, Peter Jr, Madelyn, Ricardo (Chupie), Jerrel, Anthony, Alex, and greeted by Jorgie up above. She was a bisabuela as well, leaving behind 8 and great-great mama of one.
A loving Sister, who was one of thirteen siblings, left a tremendous host of nieces and nephews. Closest to her were sisters Panchy, who had 8 children, and another, Nielde, with 5 of her own, needless to say, wonderful times were always had at countless family gatherings! Best known as Chefa to most, from her awesome cooking that touched your soul, to her gentle laugh, she encountered everyone with an open and genuine heart.
Faithful in spirit, she had an unwavering and profound love for her family, friends, neighbors, and the church. Her memory will be forever cherished; especially memories of her kindness and generosity to all.
