Josefina Laya Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Josefina Mamsaang Laya, a devoted educator and beloved mother, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy defined by compassion, dedication, and a love for life. Born and raised in the Philippines, Josefina pursued higher education with passion and purpose. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Santo Tomas, a Bachelor of Science in Education from National University, and later a Master's Degree in Education from Manuel L. Quezon University.
In 1980, Josefina immigrated to the United States, where she continued her lifelong commitment to shaping young minds. She began her teaching career at St. Paul's Catholic School in Manhattan and Our Lady of Visitation School in Paramus, New Jersey. She ultimately made her home at St. Nicholas Catholic School in Passaic, New Jersey, where she served faithfully until her retirement. Josefina also touched the lives of adult learners as an ESL instructor at the American Training Center in Passaic.
Josefina is lovingly remembered by her children Menchu and Micon Severo, and Ronald Laya and his late wife, Maria Laya; her grandchildren Kassandra, Michael, and Karissa; her sisters Mercedes Blanco, Vangie and Eddie Pabo, and Fely Joven; and her in-laws Mrs. Victorina Laya, Perlita Fernandez, Mayah and Elvis, and Omar and Geo. She now reunites in eternal peace with her beloved husband, Napoleon Laya, who passed away in April 2020.
Beyond her distinguished career, Josefina embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. She loved traveling, shopping, and especially watching Korean dramas. Known for her fun-loving spirit and graceful rhythm, she found great delight in dancing-most especially line dancing. Those who knew her can just imagine her smiling and swaying to the beat of the cha-cha alongside her dear husband once again.
Josefina's warmth, generosity, and spirited nature will forever be cherished. Her family and friends will hold her memory close in their hearts, grateful for the love and laughter she so freely shared.
May she rest in God's eternal embrace.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 14, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton.
