Obituary for Joseph F. Althamer Beloved Father, Grandfather, and Friend It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph F. Althamer of North Caldwell, New Jersey, who died peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, after a long illness. He was 79 years old. Joseph was born in Montclair, New Jersey, to Joseph and Catherine Althamer. He spent his early childhood in Montclair until the age of seven, when his family moved to Avon-by-the-Sea. He graduated in 1963 from St. Rose High School in Belmar. Joseph built a distinguished career, retiring in 2008 as a vice president with Western Union in Paramus, New Jersey. He was known for his dedication to both his work and his family, cherishing time spent with loved ones and traveling whenever possible. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Catherine (Kenny), in 2007, his dear brother, John F. Althamer, and his sister, Elizabeth A. Althamer. Joseph leaves behind his loving daughter, Kristen Koch, and her husband, Robert, as well as his cherished granddaughter, Cathleen. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Shook~Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, NJ. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Aloysius R.C. Church, 219 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. In memory of Joseph, donations in lieu of flowers to the Arthritis Foundation (https://www.arthritis.org/local-offices/nj) would be deeply appreciated.
