Joseph "Joe" Theil Bitler, age 77, passed away peacefully after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family and his devoted wife, Barbara "Barb" Bitler.
Born and raised in Canal Winchester, Joe dedicated his life to family, friends, hard work, and his community. He owned and operated Bolenbaugh Hardware, where he greeted everyone with a smile and a helping hand. He was a well-known member of the community and honored to be recognized as the Grand Marshal in the local Labor Day Parade and awarded The Chamber of Commerce Business Award.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1971 to 1973. He later continued that service as the President of the Charleston Lakes Band of Brothers, a fellowship of local veterans dedicated to camaraderie and community service. His patriotism extended far beyond his years of service as he was a proud American patriot, he instilled in his family a deep love of country and lifelong respect for the freedoms and values that make America strong.
Joe found his greatest joy in spending time with his wife "Barbie", their family, and friends- whether that meant a day at the beach, traveling together, reading a book, being a Buckeye and Browns fan, or cheering on his grandchildren at their games and activities. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and never missed one of their special moments. His laughter, wisdom, and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara; children, Ben (Nicole) Bitler and Lisa (Eric) Brunney; grandchildren, Kate and Bowen "Bo" Bitler, Elle, Hayden, Isla and Hadley Brunney; extended family and many dear friends who became like family over the years.
We will love you forever Joe, Dad, and Papa
