Joseph John "Joe" Buckholtz, 83, a seventeen year resident of Georgetown, DE and previously of Crownsville, MD, died June 5, 2025 at Thomas Jefferson Neuroscience Hospital in Philadelphia after complications from a stroke suffered one month ago. Born in Baltimore on December 18, 1941 to the late Robert and Margaret Buckholtz, he graduated from Edmondson High School in Baltimore.
Joe spent 41 years as a Baltimore City Fire Fighter, retiring as a Battalion Chief. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters Union Local 964. Other memberships included the Rosewoods Hunting Club in Eden, MD, the National Rifle Association, the Mason Dixon Club and VFW Post 7234.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Etta Rosalie Buckholtz; his cherished daughters Stacey Lee (Shane) Riley of Edgewater, Joelle Rene Buckholtz of Ocean City, MD, Terry Lynn Schneberger of Elkridge, MD; as well as his grandchildren, Rosalie Marie Riley of Edgewater and Michael Cunningham of Essex. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his son, Thomas (Kathy) Cunningham.
Joe was a very devoted and supportive husband and father whose biggest joy in life was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed going out with his friends, he was quite the social butterfly. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed, but we will always consider him our HERO!
Family and friends are invited to Joe's celebration of life on Saturday, June 21st at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, with visitation from 2-3:30 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:30 PM in the funeral home chapel.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
