Joseph Capitano Obituary

Joseph Michael Capitano, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Manhattan on Aug. 2, 2025.

Born to Pasquale and Sophie (Skripkowski) Capitano on April 24, 1943, he grew up in Pittston. He was a graduate of Pittston Township High School, Class of 1960. Joseph received a Bachelor of Arts in history from King's College, Wilkes-Barre, in 1964, and a master's degree in guidance and counseling from Montclair University in 1975.

Beginning in 1964, he was on the faculty of Brick Township High School, New Jersey, serving as a History teacher, a football coach and later as a guidance counselor. He retired from teaching in 2000.

Joseph was beloved by his wife, Rosemary Bergin Capitano, and by his sister, Charlotte Capitano. He was a favorite brother-in-law and uncle to his many Bergin relatives.

After retiring, Joseph and Rosemary sold their home at the Jersey Shore and moved to New York, where they had many wonderful years enjoying the cultural attractions of Manhattan.

There will be a requiem Mass at St. Malachy's Church - The Actor's Chapel.
