It is with great sorrow and broken hearts we share the sudden and tragic passing of Joseph W. "Joe" Casper. While his heart is stilled, his spirit lives on, deeply rooted in everyone he inspired to fearlessly seize each day and live life to the fullest.
Joe is well known as a funeral director who developed family-owned Casper Funeral Home from its humble beginnings to a South Boston cornerstone to serving thousands of people in need across Massachusetts. In addition, he had many impressive accomplishments as a broadcaster, writer, executive, and public figure.
His radio spot intro "I'm Joe Casper," became iconic for the flourish of his memorable voice and the trust he inspired in listeners. He shared heartfelt stories of families reunited, honorable remembrances, and neighborly acts of kindness. His messages highlighted the importance of celebrating life, family, friendship, and community.
Born and raised in South Boston, Joe cherished his interactions with people. Up until the time of his passing, he helped countless families quietly, confidentially, by listening, caring, and assisting them in their times of need.
We are deeply grateful and thank you for the overwhelming support and kindness expressed by so many who knew him and our family.
Joe loved his family, and we loved him immeasurably. We are taking time to grieve and be together. In the coming weeks, we will share details with you about a remembrance event to celebrate his incredible life and enduring legacy.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Joe in St. Peter Lithuanian Church, 75 Flaherty Way, South Boston, Saturday, September 6 at 11:00a.m.
