Joseph Neil Cecil, affectionately known to many as Joe, departed this life on June 16, 2024, in Keller, TX, after a valiant battle with metastatic melanoma. Born in Tulsa, OK, on November 29, 1928, Joe's journey through life was marked by his kindness, intelligence, and a warm sense of humor that left an indelible impression on everyone he met.
Joe's formative years were spent in Oklahoma and Texas, where his passion for learning and innovation began to take root. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, where he graduated first in his Electronics Class. His service culminated in an honorable discharge in 1953, a period during which he honed the skills that would define his professional life. Following his military service, Joe pursued higher education, completing two years at Kansas State University before graduating from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Physics. This academic foundation paired well with his knowledge of electronics, and paved the way for a career that was as fulfilling as it was successful.
Throughout his life, Joe was a beacon of faith and fellowship. Raised in the Methodist Church, he transitioned to the Christian Church during his young adulthood. His dedication to his faith was evident in his role as an Elder and member of the church board. Joe's support of missionaries was not only a testament to his generosity but also led to the cultivation of lifelong friendships with many who served overseas.
Joe's interests were as diverse as they were engaging. An avid enthusiast of Ham Radio and electronics, he could often be found tinkering with radio transmitters, speakers, amplifiers, and antennas, always eager to share his knowledge and discoveries, particularly his favorite songs. His involvement in the Southwest Christian Church and the friendships he shared at the Solstice Senior Living community reflected his commitment to service and connection with others. In addition to his technical pursuits, Joe was a keen amateur photographer. His creative eye captured countless moments and memories, leaving behind a treasure trove of images for his loved ones to cherish. Joe's life was a tapestry of relationships and accomplishments.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and respect among his family, including his son Chris Cecil, daughter-in-law Debbie Cecil, grandsons Ryan Cecil and Sean Cecil, Ryan's wife Margaret and great-granddaughters Claire and Katherine Cecil. His daughter, Mary Louise Williams, son-in-law David Williams, and grandsons Michael Williams and Joseph Williams, will also hold dear the wisdom and quiet strength he shared.
Joe was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Helen Louise Cecil and his 2nd wife, Jodi Cecil; as well as his siblings, Jeanne Oakes, David R. Cecil, and Dr. Jack Turner Cecil, whose memories remain a source of comfort. Joe's niece Vicki Christian, nephew Rodney, and nephew Eric Cecil will remember their uncle as a man of great character and warmth. The absence of his sense of humor, expertise, and guidance will be deeply felt by all those who knew him. He made a profound difference in the lives of many. Joseph Neil Cecil's story is one of a life well-lived and well-loved. He will be profoundly missed.
A public visitation will be held Friday June 28th from 5:00PM-8:00PM at Harrell Funeral Homes of Austin, TX.
A Funeral service will be held 10:00AM Saturday June 29th at Southwest Christian Church with a burial to follow at Forest Oaks memorial park.

Mr. Cecil sang with all his heart and soul, made us laugh and just had the beat conversations. He was everyone´s close friend it seems.
