Joseph Chisham Obituary
He was born May 06,1945 in Hannibal, Missouri the son of Joseph R. and Louise (Murray) Chisham, Sr.
J.R. was a graduate of Monroe City High School, Monroe City, Missouri. He then served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a salesman for several different companies over the years. J.R. was an avid golfer and was a member of the Mosswood Golf Course, Monroe City and the Northeast Missouri Golf Association. He served on the Mosswood Golf Board as President. J.R. was a basketball referee for MSHSAA for over 30 years. He was an avid Monroe City Panther fan and was the voice of Monroe City Football for over 30 years. He also loved playing cards and visiting with family and friends at the Dugout Sports Lounge, Monroe City. He was well known around the area and knew no stranger. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
He married Mary Ann Price on November 12,1993 she preceded him in death March 16,2025.
Survivors include two daughters Gayle Janes (Darren), Monroe City and Amy Nietiedt (Neil), Monroe City. Three sons Chris Thiemann (Sondra), Michael Thiemann (Gina) and Richard Thiemann all of St. Louis, Missouri. Eight grandchildren Kylie Speaks, Evan Janes, Cody Porter, Gracie Thiemann, Christine Orozco, Gianna Orozco, Tommy Thiemann and Leo Breault. One great grandson Rowyn Porter. Two sisters Doris Dooley and Frances Peterson (Doug). She is also survived by numerous Nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Friday, December 12,2025 at the Garner Funeral Chapel, Monroe City, Mr. Ed Talton will officiate. Burial will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Monroe City. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday evening at the Garner Funeral Home & Chapel, Monroe City. Active pallbearers will be Mike Fulton, Cody Porter, Evan Janes, Matt Speaks, Ronnie Berry, Darren Janes and Neil Nietiedt. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Gibbs, Bill Nolting and Charlie Salyer. Memorials have been suggested to the Mosswood Golf Course, Monroe City. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Garner Funeral Home & Chapel, Monroe City, Missouri. Had the pleasure of meeting J.R. while attending a golf outing in Rend Lake this year. He was one of the "Good Ole Boys". The statement " he knew no stranger" is correct. He was fun, entertaining, and a good golfer.
We have been blessed by meeting and knowing him.
