Joseph F. Conlin, 92, of the Greenwood section of Scranton, died Tuesday at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility after an illness. His wife of 40 years is the former Joan Walsh.

Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late William F. and Jane Murray Conlin. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, he served as a corporal in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He worked in law enforcement for 30 years as a motorcycle police officer and retired as a detective with the Scranton Police. He later worked in the Lackawanna County Courts for 24 years as a tipstaff for Judge James Walsh, who would become a dear friend. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police EB Jermyn Lodge 2.

Joe was a man of great faith and personified the prayer to St. Ann as he attended the novena for more than 50 years, where he received great strength. He was also a benefactor to many Catholic charities and mission societies. Joe and Joan celebrated their 40th anniversary last year, and their companionship brought many years of happiness and joy to their family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by two stepdaughters, Kathy and husband, Walter Stocki Jr., Old Forge; and Mary Hamilton, Aston, Pa.; a stepson, George Nicodem, Scranton; four grandchildren, Walter III and Patrick Stocki, and Joan and Jean Hamilton; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Conlin; two brothers, Paul and William Conlin; and a cousin, Mary Purcell.

His family is very grateful for the care and assistance of his very dear friend and neighbor, Edward Gruszewski.
