COHOES Joseph W. Couch, 89, entered into eternal life Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at his home with his loving wife and daughter by his side.
Born in Cohoes, Joe was the son of the late William and Josephine (Lonczak) Couch. He was a lifelong resident of the city, a 1953 graduate of Cohoes High School and received his associate's degree from HVCC. He proudly served in the US Air Force attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After being discharged, he went on to work for the NYS Dept. of Audit & Control in Albany for 40 years until retiring in 1996. He then decided to return to work and took a job with H&R Block where he was employed for another 20 years.
Joe was a communicant and usher at St. Ambrose Church in Latham. In his free time, he liked to play tennis and golf. He will be remembered for his loving and easy-going spirit and most importantly, being a wonderful and devoted husband and father.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Nancy Lee (Miller) Couch; by his loving daughter Debra Abbott-Walker (Jennifer) of Fairfield, CT; by his sister, Nancy Couch Maurice (late Charles) of Clifton Park; and by his grandsons, Logan and Luke. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Chenot (late Alfred), Judith Koblenzer (James), and Jean Purcell (late Kenneth); by his cousins, Armand Guerin and Sr. Eleanor Guerin, RSM as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:45 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ambrose Church, Latham. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday from 3-6 p.m.
The family would like to thank Community Hospice, especially Lori and Gayle, as well as all of his home health aides for their support and compassion during this difficult time.
