Joseph Conrad Robert Cyr, age 79 of Saco, affectionately known by many as "Chuck" and "Pepere", passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Scarborough.
Chuck was born in New Brunswick, Canada, on May 12, 1946, a son of Amedee and Marie (Desjardins) Cyr. At the age of two his family relocated to the United States. They initially settled in Van Buren, Maine, and then moved to Southbridge, Massachusetts when he was twelve. Chuck attended Cole Trade High School, and then enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly fought in Vietnam, and was decorated with several medals, including two Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart. He achieved the rank of Sergeant, and was Honorably Discharged on November 25, 1969.
It was during his leave, immediately after serving in Vietnam, when he first met the love of his life, Kathleen St. George. The young couple married on November 21, 1970, and settled in Southbridge. In 1975 they relocated to Thompson, Connecticut. Chuck worked over 30 years for Cranston Print Works in Webster, Massachusetts, where he held many positions including Union Vice-President.
After retirement Chuck and Kathy moved to
Saco, Maine, to be closer to family. Since then, they also had the good fortune of spending several winters together in Florida.
Chuck was predeceased by five siblings: Monique, Verna, Rena, Brian (known as "Pit") and David, as well as his best friend of 50 years, Donald Magill.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Cyr of 54 ½ years; by his daughter, Lisa Wright with husband Jamie, and children Derek, Tanner, Owen, and Cameron; by his son, Roger Cyr with children Jacqueline, Wesley and Corey; by five siblings, Theo, Rinette, Esther with husband Roger, Linda, and Mike with wife Linda; as well as by several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend's wife, Phyllis Magill, and their family and his good friends at the Golden Rooster where he enjoyed breakfast and camaraderie most days.
Chuck was a die-hard San Diego Chargers fan (currently known as the Los Angeles Chargers). In his "younger days" he enjoyed playing in the "Over the Hill" softball league and his Saturday morning (which often led to all day) dump runs with with best friends, Donald and Dickie. He appreciated dining out or a good home cooked meal, watching old cowboy movies, listening to country music and most of all, spending time with family and friends, old and new.
Chuck was well known and loved for his warm, kind, friendly and outgoing demeanor. He always saw the best in people and radiated positivity. He lived life to the fullest and for this we will remember and celebrate him.a life well lived.
Chuck was a devoted husband, father, Pepere, friend and veteran. He will be dearly missed by many.
