Jimmy Dale Wunderlich
Saco
Jimmy Dale Wunderlich, of Saco, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on September 18, 2025, at his home. He was 75 years old.
Jimmy was born on December 21, 1949, in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of LtCol Charles Van Wunderlich and Margorie (Callaham) Wunderlich. He grew up in Cullman, Alabama and graduated from West Point High School, class of 1968. Jimmy attended Auburn University where he received both his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, and participated on the track team as a javelin thrower. He was awarded the title of P.E. (Professional Engineer), a designation only given to an engineer who has met rigorous educational and experience requirements, passed stringent competency exams, and obtained a license from their state's engineering board. He was also a TA (Teachers Assistant) for the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, within Auburn University.
Jimmy started his career with an electrical utilities corporation called Southern Company, where he had co-opped through college. In 1980 he transitioned to Texas Instruments in Huntsville, Alabama, working in their Semiconductor division. In 1982 Jimmy moved to Norcross, Georgia to work in the Regional Technology Center for Texas Instruments. It was during his time at TI when Jimmy met the love of his life, Susan Montesano. The couple married on September 6, 1992 in Chicago, Illinois. Additionally, Jimmy worked for Rockwell International, Wiley Distributors, and for Marshall Industries. In the year 2000, Jimmy and Susan relocated their family to
Saco, Maine where they became an integral part of the community, making countless friends. Jimmy was a member of St. Andre's Catholic Church, and upon its closing, attended St. Joseph Church within Good Shepherd Parish.
After settling in Maine, Jimmy worked in research and development for Fairchild Semiconductor, and also served several other industry clients. Never one to sit still he continued working in his retirement years for Enercon Industries Corporation, and was the lead on a number of projects for them right up to the day of his passing.
Outside of work, Jimmy had a number of interests and hobbies. He donated his time as Boy Scout Council Chair for pack 308, the pack his son Thomas belonged to. He was an avid sports fan, and particularly loved following any and all college sports, from baseball and football to track and field. He was a diehard Atlanta Braves fan and rarely missed a televised game. He took great pleasure in collecting sea glass, and enjoyed reading science fiction and action/thriller novels, especially books from the Jack Reacher series. Jimmy and Susan enjoyed the occasional road trip to Texas to visit family, and more recently, their vacation to Germany.
For all the things Jimmy valued and considered precious, there was nothing he cherished more than his wife, his children and grandchildren. He will forever be remembered for his famous saying, "I HURD DAT".
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Van Wunderlich and Margorie Heard; by his step-mother, Kathleen Wunderlich; by his brother, Charles Van Wunderlich Jr.; and by his sister, Sharon Wunderlich Busbee.
