Clarice J. Wunderlich, 93, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.
Services are tentatively set for the week before Christmas and will be announced in the near future. Memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital, Riverside United Methodist Church, or Moline Township Activity Center.
The former Clarice Juluan Hierman was born July 29, 1932, in Jacksonville, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Lydia (Dufelmeier) Hierman. She married Albert W. Gray on July 19, 1958, in Davenport, Iowa. He died March 8, 1987. She later married Richard G. Wunderlich on December 17, 1994, in Moline. He passed away June 13, 2001.
She worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for over 29 years as a procurement agent, retiring in 1988. She was an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, where she was active in the church circle and served on various committees over the years. She stayed busy at the Moline Activity Center, taking part in the Red Hat Society and Friends of the Arsenal Cemetery.
Clarice volunteered for the Bix, Niabi Zoo, Festival of Trees, and the Rock Island Arsenal Thrift Shop. She participated in Habitat for Humanity, and belonged to the Margaret Bottome-McGee Circle of King’s Daughters and also volunteered at the King’s Daughters Thrift Shop.
She enjoyed traveling, walking, riding her bicycle, and playing table tennis.
Clarice is survived by two step-children, Peggy (Thomas) Smith of Milan, Illinois, and Craig Wunderlich of Tuscon, Arizona; step-grandchildren, Lyndee Smith, Shawn and Rachel Smith, and Laurie Wunderlich; and four step-great-grandchildren, Blake and Haylee Smith, and Hayden and Sophie Smith. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; siblings, Charles Hierman, Gayle Hierman, Flo Sargeant, June Howard, Imogene Haley, and Frances Sorlie; and her step-grandson, Aaron Smith.
