Joseph Dobrian

Joseph Dobrian of Iowa City, son of Walter Dobrian and Louise Lindquist Dobrian, passed away peacefully in his home due to natural causes, at the age of 68, on November 22, 2024. Raised in Iowa City, Joseph made a career for himself in New York City as a freelance writer for the Wall Street Journal and other publications. He returned to Iowa City in his retirement, continuing to write fiction and essays. He authored five novels, one collection of short fiction, two volumes of essays, a book on writing skills, and one translation. Joseph is fondly remembered by his family and friends as a lifelong lover of animals; memorial donations may be made to the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center. In accordance with Joseph's stated wishes, there will be no public memorial service.
