Joseph J. Dortenzo Sr., of Monroeville, formerly of Murrysville, passed into the Lord's hands in hospice at Forbes Hospital, peacefully on September 25, 2025. He lived a wonderful life for over 100+ years, after being born to Vincenzo and Philomena Dortenzo on March 20, 1925, in the Lincoln-Lemington area of Pittsburgh. He had four brothers and one sister, all of whom are deceased.

Joe is survived by his wife, Dolores Smalara Dortenzo, of Monroeville, (formerly of Cheswick), and was preceded in death by wife Dorothy Tovey Dortenzo of Squirrel Hill. Joe has two sons, Joseph Jr. (St. Louis) and David L. (Pittsburgh), plus four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Joe built a long-standing successful career investing 44+ years with Mine Safety Appliances after studying accounting at Robert Morris College. His career included managerial positions in Accounting, Information Systems and Distribution. He was very active in the American Management Systems professional society for many years and served as Past President of the local chapter.

He was a founding member of Mother of Sorrows Parish in Murrysville, and a frequent volunteer on numerous committees. He participated in finance and construction efforts associated with the original/current church and school buildings.

In his spare time when not spending time with his family, he rooted for ALL Pittsburgh sports teams and had a special fondness for University of Pittsburgh football and basketball. He loved cooking great Italian meals and treats, always sharing them with family.

Visitation for Joe will be on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home Inc., in Murrysville. Parting Prayers will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Mother of Sorrows Church. Entombment will then follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Pittsburgh. Donations, in-lieu of flowers, can be made in Joe's memory to Allegheny Health Network, Forbes Regional Hospice & Palliative Care Support.
