Joseph Duffer Obituary

Published by El Camino Memorial - National City on May 11, 2013.
On Saturday, May 11, 2013, Joseph Lawrence Duffer passed away from sudden heart failure at the age of 49. Joe will be forever remembered by his daughters, Heather and Zoe, his loving mother, Dolores Duffer, and his seven brothers and sisters: Steve, Allen, Rick, Georgine, Marlene, Denver, and Lorene. Joe was the sixth in line of eight children. Certainly there are many friends and relations at home and abroad that will also carry memories forward. He spent his formative years in the desert southwest of Albuquerque, New Mexico and in the summer following fifth grade he accompanied his mother on an education program to Chihuahua, Mexico. This sparked a love for international travel and eventually he became fluent in Mandarin while he lived and worked in the field of international marketing and information technology in Beijing, China, Taipei, Taiwan, and Nijmegen, Netherlands respectively. Joe attended Montgomery High School, and is well remembered by his graduating class of 1981. He went on to become a graduate of UC Santa Cruz receiving his Bachelor Degree in Political Science and his Masters Degree from UC San Diego in Pacific Rim Studies. A viewing will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, May 18th, at El Camino Mortuary, 607 National City Boulevard, National City California. A memorial service and reception will follow the viewing at 2:45 pm. You can call (619) 474-6565 for any additional information. All are welcome to attend to share your memories of Joe with family and friends. A cremation will follow privately with ashes retained by family. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made towards an educational college fund for his surviving daughters, Heather and Zoe Duffer. A financial gift can be sent to: Joe's brother, Rick Landavazo; P.O. Box 461, Valley Center, California 92082. In whatever form, your kind thoughts and sentiments are greatly appreciated at this difficult time. Joe was a controversial figure; it's wonderful to know he was thoughtfully remembered by so many.
