Gilman Dufour, 92, beloved husband of Yvonne L. (Michaud) Dufour, died after a long illness, on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at Midstate Medical Center.
Gil was born on February 15, 1933, in
Madawaska, Maine, the son of the late Paul and Emelda (St. Amant) Dufour.
He was raised and attended school in
Madawaska, Maine, then enlisted in the United States Army in 1953, serving in the Korean War. He later settled in Southington with his first wife, Gladys Roy, where they raised their three children, settling in Bristol in 1989.
Gil worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a machinist for many years before his retirement in 1993. He proudly served as a volunteer firefighter in Southington Engine Company 5 for 15 years from 1974 through 1989. Gil married his second wife, Yvonne Cooke, in 2013 after a long and happy relationship.
Gil enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, camping, traveling, and reading. His family meant the world to him, and he cherished the time he spent with them.
In addition to his loving wife Yvonne, Gil is survived by his two children: Gary Dufour and his wife, Sheryl, of Virginia, and Janice Lozano of Kansas and predeceased by a son, Kevin Dufour. He is also survived by stepdaughters: Joanne Cooke of Michigan, Debbie Charpentier of Bristol, and Sandra Galvin of Montana.
Gil is survived by five grandchildren: Aaron Dufour, Sara Dufour, Bradley Dufour, Michael Lozano, and Mark Lozano, and two Great-Grandchildren; Marianna and Theodore Lozano. He is also survived by seven step-grandchildren: Danny Baron, Christina Meredith, Autumn Silva, Monique Dallaire, Zack Nuckols, Jake Nuckols, and Wesley Nuckols. He is also survived by several step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Gil is survived by three siblings: Fern Dufour of Meriden, Wallen Dufour of Manchester, and Bernadette Aube of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Gil was predeceased by seven siblings: Joel, Bertrand, Ronald, and Willard Dufour, Angela Thibeault, Joyce Martin and Doris Albert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 10 Elm St., Middletown. Entombment with military honors will follow in the State Veteran's Cemetery, 317 Bow Ln., Middletown. There are no calling hours. Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, is honored to serve the Dufour family. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Gil's military service, donations can be made to
