Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Homes & Crematory - HammondJoseph Louis Ernest, age 78, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 16, 1946, to the late Lydia and Clarence Ernest in Metairie, Louisiana. Joseph was a proud veteran of the US Army, where he was a cook. Once he left the military, he still loved to cook for family gatherings. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Joseph could often be found with his friends, drinking his community coffee, watching sports and cutting up when he got the chance. His pride and joy was his family, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making memories they will cherish forever. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him and will be missed dearly.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Lynette Dupuy Ernest; children, Joseph Ernest II and Yancey Adam Ernest (Sarah); grandchildren, Julia Delatte (Tyler), Chloe Ernest (Nick), James Ernest and Jean Paul "Pemon" Anderson; great-grandchildren, Jett Gaudin, Tate Gaudin, and Wren Delatte; siblings, Clarence "Cotton" Ernest (Dona) and Rhonda Gill; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lydia and Clarence Ernest; and his infant sister, Sharon Ann Ernest.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 22494 Hwy 22, Maurepas, LA at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Fr. Taylor Sanford will be conducting mass with interment to follow in Maurepas Cemetery.
