PIQUA - Joseph E. Evans, 76, of Piqua, passed away at 8:34 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2026, at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born August 1, 1949, in Piqua to the late Cecil and Barbara (Ziegler) Evans.
Survivors include a son, Matthew (Alisha) Evans of Piqua; a daughter, Jennifer (K.C.) Brewer of Columbus; three grandchildren, Johnny Brown IV, Joseph Brown, Jimmy Brown; two step-granddaughters, Kennedy Brewer, Kinsely Brewer; a sister, Jane Mikolajewski of Piqua; a niece, Katie Knisley; three nephews, Brian (Heather) Mikolajewski, Kevin (Kristi) Mikolajewski, Jon Mikolajewski; as well as great nieces, great nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John "J.B." Brown, III; a brother-in-law, Robert Mikolajewski; and a nephew-in-law, Ryan Knisley.
Mr. Evans was a 1967 graduate of Piqua Catholic High School and went on to earn an associate's degree from Miami Jacobs. He served his country proudly in the United States Army in Vietnam. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. He worked for many years as a sales representative for various food brokers and grocery stores. He was a longstanding member with the VFW in Piqua and Vandalia; the American Legion of Piqua and Vandalia; and the AmVets of Vandalia. He was an avid fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and closely followed their football program. Additionally, he enjoyed following football and basketball and organizing pools, brackets, and squares for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2026, at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Eric Bowman as Celebrant. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Private burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church, 310 S. Downing St. Piqua, OH 45356.
