Joseph L. "Joe" Farrell Sr.

Norwich – Joseph L. "Joe" Farrell Sr. passed away Aug. 10, 2025, at home from natural causes following several years of poor health. He survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol; son Jim and daughter-in-law Lori; grandson, Jimmy Jr. and wife, Alex; and granddaughter Cindy and husband Brody. He was predeceased by his eldest son, Joey Jr.

Joe was born June 16, 1944, the son of John Farrell and Cora Kirkup Farrell, both predeceasing him. He was also predeceased by his brother Ronnie.

He attended NFA, and later joined the U.S. Air Force. Joe worked at Kaman aircraft in Moose for 40 years, retiring as production control manager.

Joe loved the casino and Vegas and would go any chance he could. He traveled, bowled duck pins in Norwich and would hop over the foul line; hence the name, "Hoppy Joe." Anyone who knew Joe knew that he loved his "oldie" records. At one time he had over 1000 45s and cherished them. Ask him what; and guaranteed he would know who the singer was.

No one could be more of a YANKEE fan than Joe. One of his biggest thrills was watching Mickey Mantle going around the bases on Old Timers Day.

Joe was a likable guy and had quite a few friends that he visited. If you asked him to do anything, he sure would. He will be missed by many here on earth, although he will be greeted by just as many in heaven.

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 141 Central Avenue, Norwich. A reception will be held beginning at 12:30 p.m. at a location to be announced.
