Mr. Joseph J. Filipkowski Jr.

N. UTICA – Mr. Joseph J. Filipkowski, Jr., age 63, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with liver cancer on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
Born on May 16, 1960, in Long Branch, NJ, he was the cherished son of Sarah M. "Sally" (Osborne) Filipkowski and the late Joseph J. Filipkowski, Sr. Raised and educated in Utica, he attended John F. Kennedy High School. Joseph was a proud veteran, having served with honor in the U.S. Army from 1977-1981.
At one time he was wed to Diane Peck. From this relationship came the blessing of a daughter, Emma. On April 30, 2019, Joseph embarked on a new chapter of his life when he married Yifan Yan. Their union was characterized by deep love and unwavering devotion. Yifan was always by his side, tenderly attending to his every need.
Joseph was a trained diesel mechanic by trade, using the skills he learned during his time in the Army. He worked diligently at Ryder Truck Rental in Marcy up until his illness. He lived life to the fullest and was an avid Yankees fan. Joseph was a proud member of the N.R.A and had a deep appreciation for shooting his guns. His dedication extended to his family, always being there for them when needed. He spent some time on the road, occasionally installing windmills across the country. Joseph was also a gifted storyteller, entertaining those around him with tales of his experiences. Joseph was of the Catholic faith.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Yifan Yan; his mother, Sally; his treasured daughter, Emma Catherine Filipkowski; and his brother and sister-in-law, James "Jim" and Erica Filipkowski. He also leaves his nieces, Alicia Marie, and Sara Nicole; great-niece, Westynn; and in-laws. He held in his heart the memory of his brother, Jeffrey "Jeff" Filipkowski, who preceded him on April 19, 2014.
The family will honor and commemorate his life privately. Interment with full Military Honors will take place privately in Calvary Cemetery.
