Joseph Fisher Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 16, 2024.
Joseph Ervin Fisher, 8, suddenly passed away on February 14, 2024, in an auto accident. He was born April 29, 2015, to Erin Cooney and Ben Fisher. He spent his entire life in Elk River with his parents and brother Isaac. He was baptized and received first Communion at St Andrew Catholic Church.
Joseph got the nickname SpeedyJoeJoe from his dad because he loved showing people how fast he could run, but in life he moved at his own pace, enjoying the moment, and not wanting to be rushed. He enjoyed exploring the woods in his backyard and allowing his imagination to take him to wonderous destinations that intrigued him. He would share his humor by telling jokes that he found on YouTube or by finding a funny video and messaging it to someone. His kindness was shown by how he enjoyed giving gifts, hugs, and massages or assisting others by finding useful products on Amazon. He liked playing board games, including Monopoly where he enjoyed growing his investments and managing his properties.
Joseph loved playing with his best friend and big brother Isaac. The two would play video games trying to best each other while also working together to achieve victory. Joseph attended Dojo Karate and was dedicated and determined to become a black belt like his brother and was currently a brown belt. He enjoyed the summer when he could play pickleball with his family and throw the frisbee with his mom while waiting for his brother to finish lacrosse practice. He also enjoyed playing recreational soccer with Boreal FC and was excited for the upcoming spring season.
Joseph was in 3rd grade at St Andrew Catholic Elementary School. He loved spending time with his school friends, playing in the gaga pit at recess, learning about weather, animals, mother nature, and experiencing God's everlasting love. He enjoyed attending Mass with his mom and singing in his school choir, making sure his parents recorded him whenever he sang during Mass. When he would show up for school in the morning a big smile would appear on his face when he was greeted by his principal as "St Joseph of Elk River".
Joseph had not fully decided what he wanted to be when he grew up. Initially he wanted to be a scientist, then an owner of a restaurant, and most recently he wanted to be a ninja. Whatever God was calling him to be, it would be to serve his friends and community.
Joseph had a large group of friends and family who loved him unconditionally, and is survived by his mother Erin Cooney, father Ben Fisher, brother Isaac Fisher, aunts and uncles Marcie (Dan) Schwamberger, Amanda (Anthony) Locascio, Ryan (Amy) Cooney, Kelly Cooney, grandparents Elaine Fisher, Jerry and Peggy Cooney. He was preceded in death by his two great grandfathers for whom he was named Joseph Fisher and Ervin Hau, his grandfather Timothy Fisher and great grandparents Bernadette Fisher, Laura Hau, William and Frances Brown and John and Ann Cooney.
Services will be held at St Andrew Catholic Church in Elk River on February 24th. A visitation will be held from 9-11am with mass starting at 11am with lunch to follow at the church. Joseph loved frogs and the color green. We encourage people to include green in their attire when attending the visitation and funeral. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the memorial arranged for Joseph to help cover funeral and medical costs.
We want to give a special thanks to the first responders, the Elk River Police, Elk River Fire, and Minnesota State Troopers who selflessly and heroically bless our family and community.
Arrangements by the Dare's Funeral Home, Elk River. 763-441-1212.
