Joseph Edward Funke, affectionately known as Joe, was born on June 8, 1972, and he passed away on January 22, 2025. A dedicated husband, father, Papa, and friend, Joe leaves behind a legacy of warmth and positivity that deeply touched the lives of many.
Joe was the proud owner of AJ's Landscaping, where he demonstrated his passion for creating beautiful outdoor spaces. This entrepreneurial spirit propelled him to open Funkes Bar and Grill in 2009, a beloved establishment that he operated until 2020. His commitment to his work and community was evident in everything he undertook.
Known for his friendly demeanor, Joe had the remarkable ability to connect with everyone he met. His positive attitude was infectious, and he was genuinely thoughtful, often going out of his way to do kind deeds for others without expecting anything in return. Generosity was a hallmark of his character, and he always wore a smile on his face, even during life's challenges.
A sports enthusiast at heart, Joe loved participating in activities such as hunting, fishing, floating, and camping. He was a passionate fan of the St. Louis Blues, and his enthusiasm for sports was a reflection of his spirited personality.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Tammy Funke; his two daughters, Morgan (David) Bradford and Kenadi (Lucas) Shanahan; and his son, Ryan Funke. He cherished his role as a grandfather to two grandchildren, Kohen Bradford and Eli Bradford. Joe also leaves behind his father, Donald Funke, three sisters, Nora (Jay) Klutenkamper, Natalie (Larry) Cox, and Donna Shaw, as well as a brother, Chris (Brian) Funke, and a host of other family members and friends who will hold him dear in their hearts.
Reflecting on his life, Joe was not only an amazing husband and father but also an extraordinary son, brother, and friend. He exemplified resilience and loyalty, never giving up on those he loved or on himself.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Lenora Ann Funke.
Services to honor Joe will be held on February 1, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri. Visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 4:00 PM.
