Joe was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Hilda Carpenter Gardner; and a brother, James E. Gardner. He is survived by his sister, Sue Gardner Dunaway and her husband, Les; and nieces and nephews, Natalie Ducker, Shelly Verling, Grant Verling, Debbie Roberts, and David Dunaway.
