Dr. Joseph Gargano, 66, passed away on February 9th, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. He lived in Parsippany for 34 years. Dr. Gargano was born and raised in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Born to Victoria and Anthony Gargano, he was raised alongside his siblings Maria and Anthony. Dr. Gargano graduated from New Utrecht High School, Wagner College, and The Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He established himself in private practice first in Lake Hiawatha and in 2005 moved his practice to Montville, establishing Montville Primary Care. Practicing for 37 years, Dr. Gargano dedicated his life to the care of his patients. He was kind, always willing to listen and always eager to help. Dr. Gargano was not just interested in his patients' health but cared about their daily lives. Though he was extremely dedicated to his practice, his family was always his first priority. Dr. Gargano, a loving husband and devoted father, enjoyed family vacations at the Jersey Shore, Disney trips, and family reunions in the Amish country. He especially loved traveling around the state to watch his daughter play soccer and traveling to the East Coast for baseball with his son. Dr. Gargano was a die hard Yankee Fan, amateur magician, and known to love a slice of apple pie!

Dr. Gargano is survived by his loving wife Gabrielle (nee-Martorana), son Matthew and daughter Alessandra. He is also survived by his sister Maria Ricardone (Stephen) and brother Anthony M. Gargano. In addition, he is survived by his in-laws Ben and Caroline Martorana and sisters- in-law Rebecca (Tim) Ford and Daria Fitzgerald. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, Stephen (Christine), Matthew (Amanda), Danielle, Noah, Clarissa, Margot and great-niece Juliette and great-nephew Tony. Lastly, those who will especially miss laying with him and keeping him warm are his Mini Goldendoodles Maggie and Mia and "Grandpa's boy" Leo. We know he will be greeted by our perfect girl Molly, our favorite Wheaten Terrier. His visitation will be on Tuesday February 14th from 4pm-8pm at the Par-Troy Funeral Home 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany (973) 887-3235. With the Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered on Wednesday February 15th at 10am at St. Catherine of Siena R.C, Church, 10 North Pocono Road Mountain Lakes. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I was one of Dr. Gargano's patients (and would like to think somewhat friendly). I moved out of New Jersey and to South Carolina two years ago, but actually wanted to continue to schedule my visits to see him upon my returns. I liked him that much.

He was a great doctor, very informed and informative. Having a son-in-law who is a physician, I was especially sensitive not to sit there and go on and on when I'd see him, but, he'd pull up a stool and talk to me with great interest and never rushed me. Dr. Gargano was what we all hope doctors can be like.

It's mid-May and I only just heard today of his passing and was utterly shocked and saddened. His passing is yet another reminder of us all of the phrase 'tomorrow is promised to no one.'

My deepest condolences to his family and I hope they will know what a great impact he made to all of those around him. He will be sorely missed and was a great tribute to his profession.

To say I will miss him as my Doctor doesn´t even express it. He was my doctor for about 28 years and the most caring and compassionate doctor I have ever met. I know I will never find this quality again! He took the time to know you and would always have a moment to chat with you about family or whatever was on his mind. My prayers for his family. He will always be a part of my memories.

My sincere condolences to Dr. Gargano´s family. I was a long time patient of Dr. Gargano. He was an excellent family physician, always listened to my health issues, was calm, and gave me the best advice and encouragement when I had a dreaded diagnosis a few years ago. I will never forget his professional medical care given to my family and myself- forever grateful that you were there for our medical needs. Rest in Peace Dr. Gargano.

I was so sorry to hear of Dr. Gargano´s passing. He was our family doctor for years, starting in Lake Hiawatha. We thought the world of him because he was a real listener. He never rushed you. He took care of my three kids as they were growing and came to the funeral home when my son passed away from cancer. He was very emotional having known him growing up and through his marriage and growing up. He really was a friend as well as a doctor. When my husband passed, he even called to say how sorry he was and what a great person my husband was. No doctors do that. I´m so sorry for his family. It´s not easy.

My husband and I moved to NJ fresh out of college by ourselves from upstate NY in 1999 and had to find our primary doctor. We picked Dr. Gargano since he was near our apartment and under our insurance. It was the best choice we could have made as he was one of the best doctors we have had over the past 20 years. We moved with him when he went to Montville Primary (easy choice) and always raved to our friends about how great he was if they were looking for a new doctor. He was always respectful of being on time, which many times is hard to come by with doctors, and took the time to ask how you were doing and talk with you. Even though we probably only saw him less than 1 hour a year he still touched our life. When I had my last appointment with him in February 2020 I was telling my husband that you know he may end up retiring soon and we will need to get a new doctor which would really stink. Never did I think this would happen. I was just at Montville Primary this Friday for my annual and found out the horrible news. It is very sad that we will never get a chance to say one last goodbye and tell him how much he meant to us over the past years as our doctor. Our hearts and prayers go to his family. He will be missed.
