Obituary for Joseph Earl Gibson
September 16, 1947 – July 15, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Earl Gibson, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life on July 15, 2025, in New Richmond, Ohio. Born on September 16, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Joseph lived a life marked by service, love, and a deep appreciation for family and community.
Joseph proudly served in the United States Army overseas in Germany, an experience that instilled in him a love for his country and a sense of camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. Upon returning home, he dedicated many years to the United States Postal Service, where he built lasting relationships with colleagues, always demonstrating a strong work ethic and a kind spirit.
Joseph was a man of many passions. He found joy in country and bluegrass music, often found singing karaoke with his cherished grandchildren. An avid collector of antiques, he enjoyed the stories they told and the history they preserved. Joseph was also a member of the local American Legion 550, where he enjoyed fellowship with fellow veterans, and every week he gathered with friends to play euchre, where laughter and camaraderie filled the air.
Joseph is survived by his loving daughter, Shelley (Dennis) Gibson-Russell; and his adoring grandchildren, Cody Russell, Bryanna (Stan Carnathan) Russell, and Alexis Russell. The love he shared with his family will forever be cherished and remembered.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Walter K. Gibson and Anna Gibson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26th, 2025 from 9:00-10:00am at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231 (Follow the BLUE Line). A funeral service will follow at 10:00am. Burial will take place at 11:00am at the Arlington Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Local 550 in honor of Joseph Gibson.
Joseph Earl Gibson's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit.
