Joseph F. Girgis

Joseph F. Girgis of Oak Brook, IL, was the beloved husband of Grace (nee) Zachary, for a loving 62 years. Devoted father of Dr. Samuel (Rita), John (Rhonda) of Dallas, TX, Dr. Philip (Maggie) and the late Peter (Dawn Niedermayer). Fond grandfather of 11. Beloved brother of Dr. Lily (the late Dr. Nagi) Ghali, Dr. Aida (Dr. Philip) Saif, Dr. Tawfik (Dorothy), Dr. Mary (Fadel) Hanna, Dr. Farouk (Marge), Suad (Dr. Emil) Antoun, the late Dr. Aziz (the late Hoda), the late Faiza (the late Dr. Hilal) El Massarany, the late Wafeya (the late Foad) Mishrikey, the late Anjel-Fahim and the late Dr. Kamal (Dr. Mervet). Dear uncle, great-uncle and cousin of many. Mr. Girgis was born in Egypt on August 10th, 1924, the second of 12 siblings. He moved to Chicago in 1968, and then to Oak Brook. He was an engineering professor at DeVry University for 40 years. Mr. Girgis was a devout Christian, who was involved in planting churches in Egypt as well as in Chicago. He performed a Christian Arabic radio broadcast in Chicago for many years. He was a committed family man, who also mentored many individuals, started the Bible Club at DeVry University, and was avid promoter of Moody Radio Broadcast (90.1FM/1100AM). He was a member at Lombard Gospel Chapel, and was one of the founding members of Chicago Arabic Church. Funeral Saturday, May 18th, 2013 at 9:30 AM, family and friends to gather directly at Christ Church of Oak Brook corner of 31st and York Rd, Oak Brook, IL 60523. Funeral Service celebrated promptly at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
