Joseph "Alex" Greene, age 32, of Bagley, MN, formerly of Mahnomen, MN, passed away surrounded by his family, on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND, after battling health issues for several weeks. Joseph Alexander Greene, lovingly known as Alex or Joe by his family and friends, was born on December 11, 1992, in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was the son of Delmar Hvezda Jr. and Tiffany Greene, and as a young child was welcomed by his stepfather, Jeff Thompson. Alex was raised in Mahnomen, where he attended high school and made a name for himself on the football field. Known as "Mean Joe Greene" to his teammates, he brought passion and determination to the game he loved most. Alex graduated from Mahnomen High School in 2011 and went on to study welding at NDSCS in Wahpeton. Over the years, he held a variety of jobs, including serving as a personal care attendant for his beloved grandma Irene and working in security and auto transport. However, it was through his career with the U.S. Postal Service that Alex found a quiet joy working, first in Mahnomen and most recently as a rural mail carrier in Bagley, Through the past several years, Joe formed many cherished connections with the people and families along his mail route. A gentle and private person, Alex valued the deep bonds he shared with his close-knit circle of friends and family. He had a love for the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting or joining his uncles for softball games. He also spent hours playing video games on his PC, listening to music, and exploring trivia. During his younger years, Joe also danced in powwows and took pride in learning about his Native American heritage. Alex had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his cherished dog, Penny, and his cat, Lauren, whom he doted on with love and affection. Though quiet by nature, Alex's presence left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. Alex is survived by his parents, Tiffany and Jeff Thompson; his sisters; Lindsey Thompson, Nakkia Johnston, and Kia Thompson; his brothers: Eric Greene, Hunter Thompson, Geroge Thompson, and Koda Thompson; grandparents, Gayle Turpin, Gorman Greene, and Delmar Hvezda Sr.; uncles: James Hvezda, Jerry Hvezda, Scott LaFriniere, and David Greene; five nieces and nephews: Natalia, Zylus, Elora, Anna, and Ayla; and many great aunts, uncles, and cousins. Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Delmar Hvezda Jr; grandma, Irene Auginaush; grandparents, Jerome and LaDonna Thompson; and great grandparents: Bill and Phyllis Turpin, Leslie Hvezda, Veronica Hvezda, Joeseph Auginaush, and Gertrude Auginaush. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Samuel Memorial Episcopal Church in Naytahwaush, MN. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. The burial will take place at the Turpin Family Cemetery.
